What Is The Importance Of The Business Analyst In Software Industry?

Wendy Wayne

We have seen an increasing eminence in the role and importance of the Business Analyst in IT, over the last few years. A Business Analyst plays a very crucial role in unfolding the future for any business. His role is to link up business competence with business ideas and to analyze the scope for changes and growth in the business processes. A Business Analyst regularly examines the business performance through an assessment of performance efficiency.

In IT sector, there is a perpetual scope for growth which puts the primary focus on teams which are accountable for the development, maintenance and delivery of IT systems in an organization. Working as a team requires a proficient communication because any misinterpretations may result in a wasted effort or discarded projects. This is where a Business Analyst comes into the picture. A BA plays a critical role on the team, by examining the team’s performance, efficiency and pace of work. They are also responsible for the final approvals and presenting a team’s work to the client executives.

A Business analyst has some key roles which add to his/her importance in the software industry :

1. Determining the scope of a project – A BA works with the chief project stakeholders and other business professionals to frame and exchange information about the vision for a project while deciding basic requirements and scope of a project.

2. Improvising business needs and technical issues – The job of a BA is to translate the expectations of the prime stakeholders into something which the developers can understand and vice versa. They also have the task of disintegrating the technical complexities in order to make it easy for the stakeholders to understand the issues that are likely to appear.

3. Documenting project requirements – Another job of a BA is to work with the project stakeholders and determine, create and then document their requirements and business details.

4. Validation – A BA works with the stakeholders to confirm or validate their requirements, using tech runs and reviews.

5. Representing the stakeholders – A BA has to act as a stakeholder representative in case teams don’t have access to project stakeholders.
