Tips For Traveling With Diabetes

Generally, diabetes should not be a limitation when traveling, but should prepare for the trip in advance to avoid problems related to health.

Before the trip collect the following information

• Temperatures, time differences, the country’s health system (time zones may require adjustment of treatment. Consult your doctor).

• Insurance coverage.

• Location and access to hospitals.

• Vaccines required.

Types of meals, food habits and schedules frequently.
Do not forget

• The medication you are taking.

• The self-analysis and injection material: strips, meter, syringes … (take material for several days longer than expected, should they need to delay the return due to an unforeseen factor).

• Healthcare Documentation: health card, insurance, medical report.

A small kit cures.
Carry it all in your hand luggage. On the plane should not check it.

Always have …

Always keep some food for hypoglycemia: cookie, sugar cube, candy …
Keep on hand a glucagon injection if being treated with insulin.
Take up an identification that says you have diabetes.

Look for comfort

Wear comfortable clothes and shoes and do not forget the protective cold or heat in each case.
If driving take frequent rest stops.

The presentation of insulin may be different in other countries, as well as its concentration, if I should buy also buy syringes that are used there.

Do not expose insulin to extreme temperatures (glove compartment, cargo compartments).
